After yet another winless week of lottery drawings, the Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $800 million, and the Mega Millions jackpot has soared to $1.1 billion.
The latest drawing was on Saturday evening for the Powerball, with the winning numbers 6, 23, 25, 34, 51 and a Powerball of 3.
Five tickets sold in California, Florida, Texas, Washington, and Indiana won $1 million, matching all five white balls.
For the Powerball, in which players have a 1 in 292.2 million chance of winning at the next drawing on Monday night, players could win an estimated cash value of $384.8 million before taxes.
For the Mega Millions, which has its next drawing on Tuesday night, players could earn a payout of an estimated $525.8 million.
Both lotteries also have the option for annuitized payments made over the course of three decades.
Saturday’s Powerball drawing marked the 35th without a winner since the last victory on New Year’s Day. The last Mega Millions winner came before that, on Dec. 8, marking 30 such drawings with no champion.
In recent years, the number of large jackpots has surged thanks to changes in the rules for the Powerball and Mega Millions games. Two changes contributing to this are doubled ticket prices and lowered odds of winning.
This has resulted in several jackpots eclipsing $1 billion over the last two years, including one in August 2023 that saw a winner in Neptun, Florida, win $1.6 billion playing the Mega Millions.
Another winner earned a $2.04 billion payday last February in Los Angeles, the largest jackpot in lottery history.
To have a chance at the next Powerball jackpot, be sure to purchase your ticket before the Monday drawing at 11 p.m. EST.
