In Ukraine on Tuesday, a Russian military convoy that appeared to be more than 40 miles long reportedly stalled on its way to the capital of Kyiv, defense officials shared.
White House officials have been closely monitoring the convoy after satellite images released by Maxar showed the convoy on the outskirts of Kyiv.
Officials reported that they are not only concerned by the convoy and its size but also the rising number of civilian casualties and indiscriminate killings, CNN reported
Now, the Russian convoy has reportedly stalled just outside of Kyiv as officials say they are facing logistical problems running low on fuel and food, according to a senior U.S. defense official, NPR reported.
Russia has been focusing its attacks on two of the largest cities in Ukraine, Kyiv and Kharkiv. The convoy was about 18 miles north of Kyiv when night fell on Ukraine Tuesday, NPR reported.
The convoy's position has had little or no change from where it stood on Monday, the official told NPR, adding that some elements of the military column are "literally out of gas" while also struggling to feed their troops.
While the Ukrainian resistance was praised when Russia began its invasion, officials are now worried that the situation is getting "a lot more challenging," CNN reported.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken has increased $350 million in funds to Ukraine under the order of President Joe Biden. The funds are meant to help Ukraine's defense against Russia.
However, CNN reported that officials are aware of the growing difficulty to get new aid to Ukraine, as it can no longer be flown directly to Kyiv.
