NIAGARA FALLS (WBEN) - Attorney General Letitia James' office is partnering with the Niagara Falls Police Department to host a gun buyback program from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the African Methodist Episcopal Church Saturday.
The church is located at 917 Garden Avenue & Richard Allen Way.
"A gun buyback program has some utility," said Mayor Robert Restaino during an interview with WBEN Friday. "It allows, no questions asked, to remove some of the guns that are on the streets, we hope, to limit some of the violence that we see all across the country."
Guns must be transported in the trunk of your vehicle and unloaded in a paper or plastic bag, or a box.
"I recognize that skeptics will suggest that these aren't the people that are committing the violent crimes," Restaino said of those who'd be willing to trade in their guns. "That may be true, that may not - I haven't seen any scientific evidence about that, but I'm happy every time we can try to do something to help law enforcement advance safety."
