BUFFALO (WBEN) - In the last few days, Democratic nominee for mayor, India Walton, has received several major endorsements with little over a week to go before Election Day.
On Saturday, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who many view as the new face of the progressive movement, spoke at a rally for Walton.
Others, including Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Chuck Schumer, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams have also gone public in their support for Walton.
While Walton has been endorsed by some of the top Democrats in the progressive movement, as well as top Democrats in New York State, she has criticized Mayor Byron Brown, who's running as a write-in candidate, for receiving support from Republicans.
"We know it's very obvious that Republicans are pouring money into this race," Walton said at the Saturday rally.
Late last week, Brown was asked about the endorsements for Walton, specifically that of AOC, and Brown essentially said the outside support for Walton doesn't matter to him.
"The only endorsement that matters in this race is the endorsement of the people on Election Day, November 2," said Brown.
WBEN asked Brown about the criticism that he's receiving financial support from Republicans in this race.
"It's a general election," he responded. "I'm proud to be the candidate of all the people of Buffalo - over 155,000 people eligible to vote in the general election. I'm appealing to each and every one of them as the best candidate to continue our progress and to protect the future of our city."
