Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - Shea's $50 Million expansion plans appear to be on hold, at least for a few weeks.
The Buffalo Planning Board on Monday tabled plans for a 20,000+ square foot expansion to the theater's back end after the owner of the neighboring Theater Place Apartments expressed concern about the project.
Owner of 622 Main St., Frank Chinnici, said that he has concerns about how construction would impact how his tenants would be able to access their homes, and admitted he didn't take expansion plans seriously until Brian Higgins took control of the project when he became President of Shea's after retiring from Congress.
The planned new four-story addition would create a new entrance on the rear Pearl Street side of the main theater that would include new lighting and visual displays. Inside, the addition would include three high-speed elevators, new restrooms, a box office, and more.
The planning Board said those concerns were enough for them to table the project until they meet again on July 28. They're hoping the two sides can work out their issues in the next couple of weeks before then. If not, the board does not meet again until September.
