Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The soundtrack from roofs across the Western New York and Buffalo-Niagara region Tuesday will be 'drip, drip, drip,' as temperatures finally inch above freezing for the first time in weeks.

"We are going to have a brief warmup today," National Weather Service meteorologist Heather Kenyon tells WBEN. "We have temperatures that are going to climb above freezing for the firs time since January 22nd."

It's been 18 straight days in the deep freeze for the WNY region.

"We are going to see highs in the mid 30's, maybe getting up close to the upper 30's by this afternoon," Kenyon predicts.

The warmup won't come without a little drama from the skies too.

After some light snow Tuesday morning, some rain may develop later in the day, Kenyon notes. "The big thing with the rain is that the ground is still frozen, so there could be some isolated areas of slick spots."

Only nominal rainfall is forecast for Tuesday before colder air moves back in later Tuesday, changing any remaining rain to snow showers.

"And then we'll be cool, below freezing, much of the remainder of the week, but we do see a warmup this weekend and into next week."

By Monday we could see a high of 40 degrees!
