Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - If you believe Punxsutawney Phil, we have, at least, six more weeks of wintry weather to withstand, after the notable groundhog saw his shadow early Sunday morning.
After two bitter cold starts Saturday and Sunday, a warm front on the move will help temperatures continue to warm Sunday into the 30s.
Snow will initially fall across the Buffalo-Niagara region with only minimal accumulations and mixing with a little light rain overnight into Monday, National Weather Service forecasters say.
A milder Monday is in store with temps expected to rise to the lower to mid 40's with some drizzle possible.
Monday night will bring broader coverage of showers, eventually mixing with and changing over to snow showers from north to south. Most areas see little if any accumulations other than perhaps up to an inch across the higher terrain of the Southern Tier.
A quick shot of cold air returns Tuesday with highs in the mid 20's to lower 30's and some minor lake effect snow a possibility.
A round of snow is a possibility Wednesday before temps again moderated to around 40 Thursday, followed by another colder plunge and chance for snow beginning late Thursday and into the coming weekend.
Stay tuned!
