Typical April showers and even a few thunderstorms are in the good Friday forecast for the Buffalo-Niagara region, however Easter weekend could bring another round of heavy rainfall and even the potential for severe weather, National Weather Service forecasters say.

Friday's showers won't be problematic and aren't expected to add to any of the existing flood threats that have been lingering following Tuesday's deluge of rainfall across the region.

"There's nothing new as far as the flooding today for our region," National Weather Service meteorologist Dave Thomas tells WBEN. "But we'll have some additional rain coming in here later on this weekend that could elevate those flows again."

A Flood Warning remains posted for Tonawanda Creek at Rapids, impacting areas in both Erie and Niagara counties.

The concerns Saturday come later in the day after a strong cold front passes through the Western New York area.

"We're looking for another half to one inch of rainfall," Thomas predicts, "In addition to gusty winds with these thunderstorms."

Conditions will improve somewhat for Easter Sunday. "We might be able to get that rain out of here by sunrise, if not shortly thereafter, however it will be breezy with winds gusting up to 35 mph through Sunday morning," Thomas says.

After warm temps in the upper 60's and into the lower 70's Saturday, conditions turn colder for Easter Sunday and Dyngus Day to follow.

"We're looking for temperatures in the 40's both Sunday, and again on Monday," Thomas notes.

And, don't shoot the messenger here.
