Lake effect snow drives into Buffalo metro morning commute

Good news: Day-to-day warming trend forecast into the weekend

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Once again a band of lake effect snow will impact the Buffalo metro area morning commute Thursday with forecasters predicting a quick bust of lake snow to be aligned with the busy morning drivetime.

"The timing is not good at all," National Weather Service meteorologist Kirk Apfel tells WBEN early Thursday. The band of snow is expected to impact the metro area between roughly 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.

"The total amounts aren't going to be too high," notes Apfel. "We're only looking at an inch or two in most areas."

As is the case with lake effect snow, there will be areas not impacted at times as the band oscillates back and forth.

Accumulations will be minimal with warmer ground conditions and the quick nature of the band.

There is some good news in the long range forecast into the weekend, however. "After this, we warm up and we'll be quite a bit warmer on Friday and really all the way through the weekend," says Apfel, with temperatures expected to be near or above normal.
