Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - It won`t be nearly as cold the next few days, National Weather Service forecasters tell us. In fact, it may feel downright `mild` later this weekend into early next week as temperatures in many areas will climb back towards normal levels.

Unfortunately, there will be a return appearance of lake effect snow, just in time for the Thursday afternoon commute.

"It'll be starting this afternoon and it's expected to initially develop across the Buffalo metro area, and then move southward as we go through the night tonight," NWS meteorologist Phillip Pandolfo tells WBEN.

The amount of snow is not overly significant, Pandolfo says, but it's more about the timing. "We're expecting 3 to 6 inches, for the most part, in the Buffalo metro area." Higher amounts are expected across the southtowns and Boston Hills.

Winter Weather Advisories are posted for the Buffalo metro area through and all of Erie County through late Thursday and into Friday afternoon for the southern tier.

Some good news comes with the temperature forecast as the thermometer reading will moderate from the frigid temps of the past several days. "We'll be getting high temperatures up into the 20's today, Pandolfo says. "A marked improvement."

While temps Friday night will likely hover in the mid teens to single digits, a notable amount of warming is expected through Saturday, with highs in the mid 20's across the hilltops to near 30 elsewhere. Saturday night will likely be the warmest we have seen in some time.
