Monday will feel more like January that early December, with mid winter coldness, but with a mix of clouds and bright sunshine.
Despite plentiful sunshine, temperatures will be 15 to 20 degrees below normal for the day with a forecast high around 20 degrees.
There will be no relief overnight, with temperatures quickly dropping into the single digits, to inland below zero tonight.
Snow will return midweek with a low pressure system arriving.
Aa swath of widespread snow showers will spread to the region, starting early Tuesday afternoon. Lake enhanced snow is expected northeast of the lake Tuesday night.
"Not looking for much accumulation," National Weather Service meteorologist Dave Thomas tells WBEN. "It's going to be a widespread snow."
Snowfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches will be possible with this system, with locally higher amounts for areas northeast of the lake. Areas closer to the lake across WNY may briefly mix with or change to rain on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in lower snow amounts.
Temperatures on Tuesday will reach the low to mid 30's for most areas.
An even stronger weather system arrives Wednesday, Thomas notes.
The Wednesday system will mainly target areas well south of the Buffalo metro area. "Several inches, to maybe 3 to 5 inches could accumulate(well south), across the lower elevations, that snow is actually going to changeover to plain rain, before a cold front comes back through and changes it all back to snow Wednesday night," Thomas says.
