Before we get to a midweek warmup across the Western New York region, unseasonably cold air continues to take hold, making it feel more like February than March.
But warmer air is on the doorstep.
"We'll be about 15 to 20 degrees below average today, so it will be fairly chilly out there today" National Weather Service meteorologist Jim Mitchell tells WBEN. "A lot of areas will get up around freezing by this afternoon, but we'll spend a lot of the day below freezing."

Some rain and snow showers will be around the region Tuesday, with even the chance for some early accumulation across the higher terrain. Snow totals through this morning should be minor for the most part, with a coating to 2 inches in some areas, but some spotty 3 to 4 inch amounts possible across some higher terrain.
Untreated roads may become slick in spots for the commute Tuesday, as temperatures fall below freezing along with minor snow accumulation.

And what about that warmup?
"We're going to come back out of this as soon as tomorrow, we'll be back up near average," Mitchell says. "We'll be back above average through the remainder of the week, and possibly into the low 70's by early next week."
Bring it on!
"Possibly into the low 70's by early next week."
