Quick burst of snow moved in and out with Thursday morning commute

"Most areas will get at least an inch"

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Just in time for the Thursday morning commute, a quick blanket of white covered roads, sidewalks, walkways and parking lots.

A burst of snow settled across the area during the early portions of the morning commute in Erie and Niagara counties, including the Buffalo metro and Niagara Falls areas. The heaviest snow fell through 6 a.m. with snowfall rates up to an inch an hour and visibility as low as a half mile at times. A quick total of 2 to 3 inches of snow is the result, with slick roadways and
poor visibility in spots.

"Most areas will get at least an inch," National Weather Service meteorologist Kirk Apfel tells WBEN. "There's a component of lake enhancement that's bringing a little bit greater amounts to the Buffalo metro."

The good news is the snow will tapertapered off through 7 a.m. with
most of the accumulating snow gone by 8 a.m.

Surface temperatures were near or above freezing through the morning and will rise through the day.
