Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Hot and humid is being replace by cooler and damper weather across the Buffalo-Niagara region beginning Sunday.

National Weather Service forecasters say a cold front will bring a round of showers and a few thunderstorms Sunday, followed by cooler weather for the start of the work week.

Brief heavy downpours will be possible with any of the thunderstorms that develop Sunday.

A refreshing change is in store for Sunday night, as a cool, dry northeast flow will result in a dry night. Forecasters say low temperatures will fall to the 50's across the region.

Fair, but cooler weather will overspread the area Monday, with the coolest afternoon highs the area has experienced in the past few weeks. High temperatures on Monday will range from near 70 over the higher terrain to near 80 in the lower elevations. Humidity levels will also drop to very comfortable levels as well.

Temperatures will warm some for Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, with chances for showers and some thunderstorms during the period.

Drier weather is forecast for the late work week and into the beginning of the upcoming weekend, with near normal temperatures.
