Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Spectacular summer weather is here, and just in time for the calendar flip to July and the upcoming Fourth of July holiday.
"We have a pretty typical summer week up ahead, right on schedule," National Weather Service meteorologist John Hitchcock told WBEN on Monday. "Today is going to be the hottest day of the week, we'll be in the mid-to-upper 80s, and the heat index in the low 90s, especially away from Lake Erie."
Showers and thunderstorms will emerge late in the day and overnight after a hot and humid Monday.
High temperatures, for the most part for the week ahead, will remain in the mid 80s.

Fireworks Thursday?
With some of the fireworks displays scheduled for Thursday, July 3, there is a chance for some rain.
"Maybe a few showers and thunderstorms around, low 80's for the high," Hitchcock said.
Fourth of July
The Independence Day holiday falls on Friday and the forecast is the "pick of the week."
"It looks like a great day, it looks a lot like [Sunday]," Hitchcock noted. "Highs in the upper 70s to around 80, with low humidity and sunshine."

Saturday
Lingering Independence Day celebrations into the weekend will see more hot and humid conditions return.
"Still mainly dry Saturday," Hitchcock said. "The next chance of showers and storms won't arrive until at least later on Sunday."
Weather conditions have been slightly warmer than normal so far for the summer and Hitchcock says those conditions are likely to continue for the first part of July.
