Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Temperatures above normal will greet the Kansas City Chiefs in Buffalo and remain with Bills fans through midweek before some changes overtake the Western New York region.
High pressure will center over the region Sunday, resulting in another day of fair and dry weather, National Weather Service forecasters say. For the Bills-Chiefs game at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, cloudy skies are forecast with highs in the upper 40s to mid-50s.
A cold front will cross the region Sunday into Monday morning, bringing a round of showers to the area that will move out during the day. High temperatures in the mid 50s are forecast.
A brief quiet period from Monday afternoon into Tuesday afternoon will turn more active for the second half of the week. Temperatures will remain above normal through Wednesday, but then cool to below normal for the late week and into the weekend.
It`s been a long time in coming, forecasters say, but it is starting to look more likely that most of the region will pick up their first measurable snowfall of the young season into the weekend.
A large and very complex storm system will develop over the Midwest late in the week, and while the various guidance packages continue to have run to run variability, a general agreement is taking shape for a prolonged period of precipitation that should include some wet snow.
The highest chance for the wet snow will initially come at night and across the higher terrain, but as we approach the weekend, the mixed precip/wet snow should become more widespread with lake enhancement figuring into the equation as well.
While confidence remains low with many of the details...including snowfall amounts, it is not out the realm of possibilities that lake enhanced areas southeast of the lakes pick up several inches of wet snow by late Saturday.
Stay tuned as the forecast continues to develop through the week.
