The weather for a June weekend in the Buffalo-Niagara region could be better, but could be worse.
It seems to be somewhat becoming the norm as summer unfolds across the region, with some showers in the forecast on the weekend and unseasonably cooler conditions.
After some overnight rainfall early Saturday, a frontal system will bring showers and a few thunderstorms to the southern tier at times. Farther north, mainly dry conditions expected this weekend, National Weather Service forecasters say. Areas generally north of the NYS Thruway should remain dry through today.
"A pocket of dry air may dip down from Canada on Sunday and may be just enough to keep rain away most of the day in parts of New England and upstate New York, resulting in good weather for Father's Day," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said.
The high temperature Saturday will top out around 70 degrees and will rise to the mid 70's Father's Day Sunday with clearing conditions.
A more humid summer-like system will overtake the region by midweek and also lead to possible unsettled weather, before cooler and less humid air moves in late week.
"An extended period of heat, with warm and humid nights, is possible from the Ohio Valley to the Northeast starting during the second half of next week, making it feel more like summer," AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok said.
