Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Widespread freezing conditions have taken hold across the Buffalo-Niagara region during the overnight and early morning hours for the beginning of the new work week.

"Widespread freeze across much of the area this morning," National Weather Service meteorologist Phillip Pandolfo tells WBEN. "A lot of surrounding stations are at the upper 20s this morning, and that extends all the way up to the Lake Ontario shoreline."

The early morning reading at the Buffalo Airport was right around the freezing mark.

The frigid overnights are not uncommon for this time of year, Pandolfo notes. "We are right on time for when we typically see our first deep freeze of the season."

A Freeze Warning was posted for the Buffalo metro area and northern portions of Western New York early Monday.

It will be more of the same for the next few mornings as well.

"Tomorrow we are looking at temperatures that will be really just as cold as they are this morning," Pandolfo says. Maybe a few degrees warmer Wednesday. "The nighttime lows do improve later on in the week."

The forecast for Halloween at the end of the week looks to be widely unsettled, with chances for showers increasing.

"This really is more Thursday night into Friday, though it is looking very unsettled near the end of the week."
