Winter storm drops snow, wintry mix across Buffalo and WNY

Winter Weather Advisories posted for WNY Wednesday

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - As promised, the weather is matching the calendar across the Buffalo metro and Western New York region with accumulating snow and a wintry mix.

Accumulations have been more than manageable for plow crews, but there's enough to slow traffic and put a damper on the afternoon and evening commute.

"The snow is going to pick up in intensity into the afternoon hours," National Weather Service meteorologist Heather Kenyon tells WBEN. The snow will be heaviest across the northtowns and into Niagara County, Kenyon tells WBEN.

The snow won't last, however, as warmer air mixes in as the storm moves through. "Actually that snow's going to change over to a wintry mix and then to rain across the southern tier and then the southtowns this afternoon," Kenyon notes. Some icing is also possible as the temperature moderates during the afternoon hours.
