North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper and South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster expressed different plans on reopening their respective states.
Governor McMaster expressed an interest in opening some stores up while Governor Cooper is proceeding with caution in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Over the weekend, Governor McMaster tweeted, "Very productive call this afernoon with southeastern governors. We discussed each state's plans to safely get folks back into the workplace. Told them South Carolina was ready." According to Fox46 News, South Carolina was among the last states to put restrictions on non-essential businesses and is now looking at being one of the first states to be open.
Should Governor McMaster allow some stores to open, many chain retail stores will still choose to remain closed indefinitely nationwide.
Meanwhile, Governor Cooper said in a recent news conference, "North Carolina has made great strides, but we have more work to do."
On Friday, Governor Cooper tweeted, "There's no perfect sequence or timing for reopening, but there is health guidance, business guidance, & common sense."
