As Mecklenburg County transitions to North Carolina’s stay-at-home proclamation effective Thursday, April 30, Parks and Recreation are loosening some restrictions that had been put in place because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Parking lots for parks, greenways and nature preserves will be reopened for vehicles instead of only walk-in and bicycle access. Visitors cannot congregate in groups larger than 10. Boat ramps will reopen at Blythe Landing, Copperhead Island and Ramsey Creek.
Tennis will be allowed in county parks, with players and park patrons reminded to observe social distancing of at least six feet between individuals, and to wear a face mask when that is not possible. The same social distancing rules apply to golf, along with restrictions of only one person per golf cart. County driving ranges are still closed.
Parks and Recreation officials say other closures remain in effect as well, including park playgrounds, restrooms, sports courts and fields for group sports. Indoor facilities such as aquatic, nature and recreation centers also remain closed to the public until further notice.
