A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper was arrested early Saturday morning. Jerome John Letcavage, 44, was taken into custody and charged with larceny. He was released a short time later under a written promise, according to the Gaston County Sheriff's Office.

Letcavage, a 22-year veteran of the patrol, is accused of stealing gym equipment valued over $5,000 from the Warlick Family YMCA on Robinwood Road on Sept. 2, a spokesperson for the Gastonia Police Department confirmed to WBTV.

A spokesperson for the NCSHP confirmed Letcavage is still employed with the agency, but wouldn't comment on personnel issues.
