China reports zero new COVID-19 cases. Here’s how they did it.

Despite the rise of variants globally, China is reporting the country has no new COVID-19 cases.

However, the method the nation used has raised questions from critics who believe other countries would be unwilling to use similar Draconian methods to eradicate the virus.

China relied on practices and policies it used before to squash the flare-up in cases.

Toward the end of July, a cluster of infections emerged among cleaning staff in Nanjing.

In response, the government tested sections of populations repeatedly. In one case, a community said Chinese officials tested it more than a dozen times. This is because the country wanted to ensure all positive patients were treated.

Despite China administering more than 100 million tests, some citizens were infected with the virus while waiting to get tested in large groups.

Cutting off access to cities and stopping travel were also key contributors in controlling the virus’ spread.
