Pat McCrory joins Meet the Press on Sunday

Former N.C. Governor believes GOP gaining momentum two weeks before the election

WBT's Pat McCrory joined the panel of guests on NBC's Meet the Press Sunday.

The former North Carolina Governor and top-rated radio talk show host was one of four people to break down the events dominating headlines this week including the Senate confirmation hearings for U.S. Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett.

McCrory believes Republicans are gaining momentum with the nomination of Barrett and asked why Democrats aren't mentioning her on the campaign trail.

He also briefly touched on South Carolina U.S. Senate candidate Jaime Harrison spending a record amount of money on political ads across the board. Another point of emphasis during the discussion was GOP attacks and how President Trump has overcome controversy.

McCrory's third appearance on the nation's longest-running television show this year. He was most recently on the program to recap the 2020 Republican National Convention at the end of August.

Barrett took on several questions from members of the Senate Judiciary Committee this past week. The Judge was criticized for the way she responded to those questioning her by referring to previous rulings by the court, and not giving her own opinion directly. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., asked about the case of Roe v. Wade, which protects a woman's right to have an abortion. Barrett said she sided with former Justice Antonin Scalia, who wrote in 1992 that Roe was wrongly-decided.

Another topic that was pressed during the hearings was LBGTQ rights established under a landmark ruling by SCOTUS five years ago. Democratic Senators expressed concerns over Barrett's previous ties to anti-gay groups, including accepting five payments from Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) to speak at a training program for Christian law school students for the Blackstone Legal Fellowship.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham pushed forward the narrative that Barrett would vote to uphold the Affordable Care Act in an upcoming case. The move by Graham was used to try and silence Democrats who said Barrett's nomination was key to the Republicans stripping healthcare away from the over 30 million people on Obamacare.

The Committee is scheduled to reconvene and consider Barrett’s nomination at 1 pm ET on Thursday, Oct. 22.

Meet the Press host Chuck Todd opened show with U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar, who explained the government's current stance on handling the Coronavirus. He moved on to interview Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and asked for her reaction to chants of "Lock her up" at a recent MAGA rally for Trump.

Todd then went back to asking about the Coronavirus response with Dr. Michael Osterholm before welcoming the panel to close out the show.

McCrory was joined by White House reporter Ashley Parker, NY Times writer Mark Leibovich, and former Maryland Rep. Donna Edwards.
