OPINION: Would you be my Neighbor… If I had a Trump sign in my yard?

A friend recently shared a letter he received in his mailbox from one of his neighbors.

"Dear neighboring Trump Supporter," the unsigned letter read.

"After enduring the first presidential debate, it compelled me to write you a letter. I realized today with clarity that I do not just disagree with those who quietly or openly support Trump's agenda, but that I am truly now afraid of anyone who proudly supports Trump- as the sign on you lawn suggests."

The three-page write up detailed several things the neighbor disagreed with and used words such as "racist" and "bully." Is this happening in your neighborhood? Or would you feel comfortable putting a form letter like this in someone's mailbox?

This isn't what we stand for in American. Agree to disagree and move along, but to call out someone for a display of political affiliation goes against what this country was built on.

"This letter probably won't change your mind, but when you cast your ballot, I hope it carries with it the gravity of the about, and that you at least take half the time I spent on this letter to ask yourself if the way I see you is the way you want to be seen," the person went on to write. "Is this the side of history you are really proud to be on? Respectfully, Your Neighbor."
