South Carolina Democratic senate candidate Jaime Harrison set a record for quarterly fundraising over the weekend. An astonishing $57 million from July through September is the highest total for any Senate candidate in U.S. history.
A sign of strong support for the Democrats in the battle for control of the Senate. Harrison continues to gain momentum over the Republican incumbent Lindsey Graham, who recently said "they're killing me moneywise" on Fox News in an attempt to seek more funds.
Harrison and Graham were scheduled to debate each other for a second time last week, but the event was canceled due to Coronavirus concerns. Instead of squaring-off face-to-face, the two candidates took thirty minutes with a local S.C. television host and a group of panelists on Friday night.
Graham took that time to address several topics and made controversial comments in the process. He said, "I care about everybody. If you're a young African-American-- an immigrant-- you can go anywhere in this state. You just need to be conservative; not liberal."
Graham declined to take a COVID-19 test prior to the debate after coming in contact with several people that tested positive for the virus including President Trump. Graham's demise is starting to show heavy in his home state as well. Harrison leads Graham in the polls with three weeks before election day.
The incumbent senator heads back to Washington to lead the Senate Judiciary Committee in hearings to try and confirm judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.
