NEW YORK (1010 WINS/ WCBS 880 NEWS) – Two people were arrested on Monday for crashing a stolen car into a storefront on Long Island and then stealing merchandise from the store, Nassau County Police said.
Christopher Flores, 19, and a 16-year-old were arrested for the robbery which happened at around 4:55 a.m. at the Simplex sneaker and apparel store in Wantagh, according to police.
Cops responded to a call and found a BMW crashed through the storefront in which six people were then able to steal merchandise from the store.
The group fled in two BMWs as officers arrived, with one of the vehicles hitting a police car and injuring an officer who was later hospitalized, according to police.
At about 5:16 AM, officers spotted one of the fleeing BMWs parked near Little Neck Avenue and Coral Court in North Bellmore, with two suspects standing outside who then ran away.
Flores and the juvenile were arrested.
Police found multiple pairs of sneakers and clothing in the stolen BMW.
The second BMW and the remaining four suspects are still at large.
Flores is charged with second degree burglary and fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property.
The juvenile is charged with second degree burglary and third degree unauthorized use of a vehicle.
Both are set for arraignment on Jan.16.
An investigation is ongoing.
