Participating structures in the city include One World Trade Center, Grand Central Terminal, the Kosciuszko Bridge and East End Gateway at Penn Station. Niagara Falls, the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge and other statewide buildings will be lit pink as well.

"Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time to reflect on those who have lost their lives to Breast Cancer, as well as those left behind who are deeply impacted by the loss of their friend, colleague or loved one and recognize those who have beat breast cancer or are currently battling the disease," Hochul said in a statement.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in New York women. This year, it’s anticipated that more than 255,000 new cases of invasive and non-invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed across the country— along with about 42,000 female deaths, according to Hochul’s office.

"This month also serves as a crucial reminder to spread awareness and encourage our loved ones to schedule routine mammograms as well as personal breast exams,” Hochul added. “We know that early detection is key and while we recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, our efforts to increase awareness and support for fighters and survivors continues year-round."
