NEW YORK (WCBS 880/AP) — The NYPD was searching Wednesday for a gunman who opened fire in a crowded Bronx park Tuesday evening, wounding four people, including two young boys.

Two masked men dressed all in black rode a scooter to St. James Park in the Kingsbridge section shortly before 6 p.m., NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell said at a news conference.

The passenger got off the scooter and opened fire into a crowd of hundreds of people before the pair drove off, the chief said.

Two brothers, ages 3 and 6, were each shot in the leg, a 25-year-old man was hit once in the back and a 23-year-old man was shot multiple times throughout his body. They were all taken to St. Barnabas Hospital.

“Everyone is doing well and will recover from their injuries,” Chell said.

Investigators didn't know who was targeted in the shooting or the motive for the attack, he said.

No arrests have been made. The NYPD released an image of the suspects Wednesday.

Just over the weekend, a disturbed gunman on a scooter fatally shot an 86-year-old man and injured three other people in a series of six apparently random attacks in Brooklyn and Queens, according to police.

The suspect—Thomas Abreau, 25, of Brooklyn—was arrested following Saturday's rampage and has been charged with murder, attempted murder and other crimes. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he had an attorney.

Police said they seized the scooter and a 9mm handgun with an extended magazine.

At Tuesday’s press conference in the Bronx, police said they would “not relent” in taking illegal scooters and illegal guns off the streets.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
