NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Two shooters unleashed a hail of bullets on a group of men outside a Bronx park on Wednesday night, striking six of them before fleeing on a scooter, police said.
The barrage of gunfire around 8:15 p.m. sent people scrambling for cover outside St. James Park in Fordham Heights.
According to police, six men were hanging out on the sidewalk at East 191st Street and Morris Avenue when the two shooters walked up and fired at least nine rounds at them.
The six victims—in their 20s and early 30s—suffered various gunshot wounds to their stomach, torso, groin, hands, legs or arms, police said.
All of them were hospitalized and are expected to survive, with some undergoing surgery overnight.
NYPD Assistant Chief Benjamin Gurley said the gunmen rode up on a scooter, parked the vehicle inside St. James Park and then walked over to the group.
“When police arrived, there was two victims on the scene,” Gurley said. “There was two other victims that fled in a vehicle and flagged down EMS. And they were taken to an area hospital. And then we had two other victims who walked into two different hospitals, one in Queens and one in the Bronx.”
A motive for the shooting wasn’t immediately clear. The NYPD spent the night investigating in the area.
No arrests had been made as of Thursday.
