NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Bronx Week, a celebration of everything the community has to offer, will be happening for the next 13 days, and 1010 WINS/WCBS 880 got a taste of the borough at the Bronx Night Market.

For the first time, the Bronx Night Market was included in Bronx Week. Held Saturday at 161st and Grand Concourse from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m., more than 40 small food and beverage vendors came to showcase their goods and culture with the community.

“I’ve been in the Bronx for over 20 years, and then to know they have all these other events every place else, and then now we’re in our own community, the first thing I posted was ‘I’m so glad to be in my home,’” Chef Emmy, of A Taste of Eme, said while selling her handmade desserts.

Saturday’s warm weather kept energy up for those promoting businesses like Soul Fusion, ran by Chef Yusef El-Amin, who makes healthier, Halal soul food.

“It feels Tony the Tiger great! Yes, the spirit out here is sky high, the weather is beautiful, it’s just an excellent day,” El-Amin said. “Once they try our food, they will never go back to their food.”

Bronx Week, put together by the Bronx Tourism Council in collaboration with the Bronx Borough President’s Office and the Bronx Economic Development Corporation, created a calendar with all the programming organized for Bronx Week as well as planned community events.

The annual celebration of the borough has been bringing in visitors and cultivating community in the for decades, and night market vendors like Ray De La Cruz of Teaful grew up attending.

“Being here as an adult and just like being able to share our teas with people is amazing, so I feel great,” De La Cruz said.
