FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — A new rollercoaster is set to open this spring at Long Island’s iconic Adventureland amusement park.
In celebration of the park’s 60th anniversary, a new vertical coaster called the “FireBall” is set to make its debut when the park reopens its gates to visitors in March.

Adventureland noted that the rollercoaster is the “fourth of its kind in the world and the first and only in North America.”
The rollercoaster was custom made for Adventureland by Ride Engineers of Switzerland (RES).
The family ride will be red and yellow and feature three swinging gondolas that seat riders in pairs, back-to-back. The ride is unique in that riders are then transported on a vertical track to experience a “free-falling sensation.”
“FireBall will have you on the edge of your seat for nearly 90 seconds of pure thrill,” Adventureland said in a release. “Riders will soar up into the sky and then travel down the upright track, providing expansive views of the heart of Farmingdale and heart-stopping thrills!”
The new coaster will be located next to Adventureland’s iconic Wave Swing and will be lit up in LED lights with a LED eternal “flame” that will make it visible to those traveling north and south on Route 110.
The park is retiring the kiddie carousel and the bungee jump to make room for the new ride, according to a Newsday report. The coaster also cost Adventureland a total of $1.5 million.
Adventureland reopens for the 2022 season on March 26. Tickets are available for purchase at Adventureland.us.
