NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — The Knicks and Nets both have home games Tuesday night and for the first time since last March, both Madison Square Garden and Barclays Center will welcome back a small number of fans into the stands.
The last time fans were allowed in the Garden for a Knicks game was March 8, 2020.
Now, both arenas will be open at 10% capacity.
On Tuesday night, 2,000 fans with proof of a negative PCR test within 72 hours of the game will be allowed into the Garden to watch the Knicks take on the Warriors.
“We’re very excited,” said Knicks Head Coach Tom Thibodeau. “We understand how important our fans are and certainly appreciate all the support that they’ve given us…We’re looking forward to the day when The Garden is full, but we’re excited to have our fans in the building - they’re an important part of our organization.”
Over at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, just 300 fans will be allowed in Tuesday and for the next two games as a sort of soft opening.
When Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the reopening of arenas he said testing is everything,
"Why? Because if you're negative, you are negative, so the testing is the key," Cuomo said.
If you want to attend it will cost you dearly. Tickets for some of the best seats are going for as much as $2,200 a piece.
Concessions will be largely limited to pre-packaged items.
Fans will also be able to catch the Rangers game Friday night.
“Rangers fans are special - and we understand all the support they’ve given us from afar, so we cannot wait for the day The Garden is full,” said Rangers Head Coach David Quinn. “Even if it’s just a couple thousand fans to start, we’re beyond excited to see them in the stands and hear their energy during the game.”
