YONKERS (WCBS 880) – An armed and “emotionally disturbed” man was found dead hours after he holed up at a Yonkers home and shot at officers Saturday, police said.

An Emergency Service Unit found the man dead in the home on Livingston Avenue, Yonkers police said around 8 p.m. Saturday. No other injuries to officers or residents were reported.

Six hours earlier around 2 p.m., police said they were “actively engaged in a crisis negotiation event with a barricaded, armed emotionally disturbed person” at a home.

Officers responding to a welfare check encountered the man, who made threats and fired at them, prompting police to return fire, police said.

The area was cordoned off and residents were urged to shelter in place for hours as negotiators tried to resolve the standoff.

It's unclear how the man died. An investigation is ongoing.
