
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A Queens man who had been reported missing last Thursday was found dead in the East River, near Governors Island, according to police.
On Friday, police responded to a 911 call of a body seen floating in the East River around 8:30 a.m.
NYPD Harbor Units recovered the body and pronounced the man dead at the scene. They had not yet identified the man at the time of the recovery.
The body was discovered one day after Nicolas Lopez, 35, of Astoria, was reported missing after leaving his residence of 27th Avenue around 4 p.m.
On Thursday, authorities announced that they had positively identified the deceased man to be Lopez.
The NYPD did not say if the incident is being investigated as a homicide.
The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
