Boy, 15, used dating app to arrange LI meetups, rob people at knifepoint

NEW CASSEL, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Authorities on Tuesday announced the arrest of a teen boy accused of using a dating app to arrange meetups and rob people at knifepoint on Long Island.

The 15-year-old boy was arrested at 3:44 p.m., on Sunday, June 23 for multiple robberies that occurred in New Cassel, officials said.

According to detectives, the boy would arrange meetings with
other males through a dating app and after meeting with them at a prearranged location and entering their vehicle, he would display a knife and threaten to stab them if they did not drive to various ATMs to withdraw money.

The victims, fearing for their lives, would comply and give the teen the money withdrawn or their personal items before he would exit the vehicle and flee the scene.

These incidents occurred on Friday, June 14, in New Cassel and on June 21, in New Cassel, police said.

The 15-year-old was charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of kidnapping, two counts of grand larceny, two counts of menacing, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and petit larceny.
