Boy, 16, arrested for hit-and-run crash that seriously injured woman on LI

WYNDANCH, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Suffolk County police arrested a Long Island teenager for a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a a pedestrian early Sunday morning.

According to officials, shortly before 1:30 a.m., a 2013 Toyota Camry and a 2014 Kia Optima were involved in a crash with no injuries at the corner of Patton Avenue and Wellwood Avenue in Wyandanch.

The occupants of the vehicles exited to assess the damage at 1:35 a.m. when a 2010 Nissan Rogue traveling westbound on Patton Avenue struck the rear of the stopped Kia and pushed it into the Camry, pinning 20-year-old Meyli Henriquez between both vehicles.

The occupants in the Nissan all fled the scene on foot.

Responding officers applied tourniquets to both of Henriquez’s legs.

Henriquez, 20, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Two other people were transported to area hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 1 p.m. a 16-year-old boy, who is not being identified due to his age, was arrested at his Brentwood home.

The boy was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash with serious injuries.

He was released on a desk appearance ticket into the custody of family and is scheduled to appear at family court in at a later date.

The investigation remains ongoing.
