NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – The national trade association for the Broadway industry and the union representing actors reached an agreement on COVID-19 safety guidelines, including vaccine and testing requirements for the Broadway workforce.
The Broadway League and the Actors’ Equity Association announced the agreement Thursday as theaters look to reopen at full capacity in September after being shuttered since March of last year.
The deal includes a detailed plan for COVID-19, including that all employees be vaccinated with some exceptions, including age or health reasons.
Weekly testing of employees will also be required, and venues must have improved HVAC standards.
“This is an important milestone on the path to getting all our members safely back to work,” said Mary McColl, the executive director of the Actors’ Equity Association.
McColl said the union feels the plan is “robust, adaptable to changing conditions and in line with the science.”
“We will continue to partner with our union colleagues as we work together towards raising all of our curtains again,” Broadway League president Charlotte St. Martin said.
