NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie now says he was wrong about not wearing a mask at Amy Coney Barrett's Supreme Court nomination event at the Rose Garden and multiple debate prep sessions with the president and the rest of his team.
Christie has recovered from a bout with coronavirus and revealed Thursday that he spent seven days in the ICU at Morristown Medical Center.
He said he believed when he entered the White House grounds that he was in a safe zone due to testing, but he was wrong.
"It was a mistake, I was led to believe that all the people that I was interacting with at the White House had been tested and it gave you a false sense of security and it was a mistake," he told ABC News.
Christie told George Stephanopoulos on "Good Morning America" on Friday that he had been careful for seven months because of his asthma, but then he let his guard down for a couple of days and it cost him "in a significant way."
In a statement, Christie said the virus must be taken seriously and that as a former public official, he believes Americans have not been treated as adults "who understand truth, sacrifice and responsiblity."
He is urging Americans to wear a face mask.
