COVID-19 vaccinations at Jones Beach suspended due to weather

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Operations at the Jones Beach drive-thru vaccination site have been suspended due to the high winds and freezing temperatures.

"This weather system is producing strong winds and dropping wind-chill levels to near zero which creates safety concerns given the structure of the open-air tents currently being utilized at the site," Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a press release.

Anyone scheduled to get their shot on Friday and Saturday will be notified of the suspension via email and text.

All appointments will be rescheduled for Sunday through Wednesday.

According to the governor's office, the timing of the new appointments will be scheduled in alignment with the original time.

"If that new appointment time does not work for an individual given the change in day, they will be provided with a contact number to identify a different time that may work better for the individual," the office said.

All other state-run mass vaccination sites remain fully operational.
