NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — "The Sopranos" actress Edie Falco is urging New Yorkers to help put an end to the horse carriage industry in Central Park.
Falco, 58, joined teamed up with the group New Yorkers for Clean, Livable, and Safe Stress (NYCLASS) for a new PSA calling on the New York City Council and Mayor Bill de Blasio to ban “cruel and deadly horse carriages.”
“New York is back and so is the abuse of carriage horses,” Falco said in the video.
Video of injured, scared and fallen horses appear on screen as the actress narrates.
“Why are horses still pulling carriages in traffic? Sick and injured, worked to death, violent crashes. These animals feel pain,” Falco said. “They feel terror. They bleed, just like we do.”
The video ends with the Brooklyn urging viewers to call their local New York City Council member and urge them to ban the horse drawn carriages in the five boroughs before the end of the year.
New Yorkers can also sign a petition urging the city to pass legislation at NYCLASS.org/petition.
De Blasio previously led a campaign to ban horse carriages in New York City in 2013 with the organization.
He was unable to generate support in the Council, but has since called for horse-drawn carriage pickups to happen exclusively inside Central Park, rather than on the street.
