Former NJ Gov. Chris Christie joins Mets Board of Directors

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has been named to the New York Mets Board of Directors.

Owner Steve Cohen announced in a release Friday that Christie, a longtime, diehard Mets fan, will be joining to the board effective immediately, along with Jeanne Melino, Executive Director at the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Foundation.

"Chris and Jeanne are friends and trusted advisers with decades of leadership experience," Cohen said. "I welcome them both to the Board and I look forward to working with them on behalf of our fans, our community and the team."

Melino will also be joining the Mets as Senior Vice President of the Amazin' Mets Foundation and will oversee community engagement and diversity, equity and inclusion efforts for the team.

Christie and Melino will join Cohen, Chairman Emeritus Fred Wilpon and Mets Vice Chairman Andrew Cohen on the board.

Steve and Alex Cohen have been great friends to me and Mary Pat for years and we thank them for including me in this new challenge and opportunity," the 58-year-old Christie said. "As a Mets fan for the last 53 years, I am looking forward to helping Steve, Alex and the New York Mets organization bring a great experience to Mets fans and the community."
