NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A 15-year-old girl was killed and a 18-year-old man was critically injured Tuesday when the stolen moped they were on collided with an SUV in the Bronx, according to police and a source.

The two teens were on a motorbike going north on University Avenue around 12:15 p.m. when they collided with a Honda Pilot also going north at 192nd Street in University Heights, police said.

“I heard a bam!” said Arturo Quinones, who lives down the street. “It happened so fast.”

Quinones said the girl was lying motionless after the crash and the man was “hurt pretty bad.”

The girl, identified by police as Dafney Juan, of Washington Heights, was pronounced dead, while the man was taken in critical condition to St. Barnabas Hospital.

The moped was reported stolen, and the man was arrested on a charge of criminal possession of stolen property, a source told WCBS 880.

The 22-year-old man driving the Honda stayed at the scene. He was not injured and has not been charged.

A friend of Juan remembered her as “a loving girl” who sang and wanted to be a doctor.
