NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A house that has previously only existed on cardboard pages and in the imaginations of children has come to life in New York City.

In today’s Sweet Spot, WCBS 880's Mike Sugerman explores the "Goodnight House."

Margret Wise Brown wrote the beloved children's book, "Goodnight Moon," in 1947 and it has sold more than 48 million copies.

Now, fans can step foot in the fictional house.

“Any kind of thing that you would see in the book, you would see in this exhibit," says Jo Rosenthal, who oversees the art exhibit at the Fort Makers gallery in SoHo.

It features 14 artists' takes on clocks, and socks, and kittens, and mittens.

“Well I love it. It’s an interactive exhibit," said Tamika Rivera, who made the rug at the foot of the red-frame bed. “It’s something that you can play within context of something that so many people have been inspired by.”

Jessica Lassiter brought her 6-month-old Jamie.

“We’ve been reading the book nightly to kind of prepare for the visit, actually. So it was neat to see some of the interpretations,” she said.

Brandi Bookman Harris was overwhelmed with emotions.

“I’m having an emotional response to this room because I read my son this book every night years," she said.

That type of response by visitors is quite normal.

“They cry out of joy because they can’t believe it," Rosenthal said. "They’re so excited. I’ve never seen people have more of an emotional reaction."

The exhibit is open through June 10.
