Hungerthon 2020: Help WCBS 880 and WhyHunger end hunger in America for good

Join WCBS 880 and WhyHunger in fighting for everyone’s right to nutritious food through Hungerthon, the annual campaign to raise funds and awareness to end hunger in the U.S. for good.

With 1 in 6 Americans projected to experience hunger by the end of the year, amplified by the impact of COVID-19, participating in Hungerthon is more crucial than ever.

"I've never seen anything like this in my three decades of working at WhyHunger," executive director Noreen Springstead told WCBS 880. "People are out of work, they don't have the means to get the food that they need, people are reaching out to soup kitchens, and food pantries, and food banks at a rate never before seen."

Springstead said the pandemic has illuminated that hunger has been an entrenched social problem for many years and now it's affecting even more people.

Every year the Hungerthon community - radio personalities, listeners, celebrities and supporters like you - come together to fight hunger through exclusive online auctions, social media activation and live radio broadcasts. Last year, for the 4th year in a row, WCBS 880 helped raise over $1 million dollars to invest in real, transformative solutions to hunger. This holiday season, in the face of crisis, join the movement to create hope now. Take action to help tackle urgent human needs and nourish people in communities across America.

"We emphasize fresh food, we've been on the forefront of that movement to prioritize health and wellness, and we can see in the pandemic that the healthier you are the more resilient you are. So fresh foods are a critical component of how we are addressing the hunger crisis," Springstead said.
