NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Gov. Kathy Hochul predicted Vice President Kamala Harris will win the presidency in November's election again former President Donald Trump, telling MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell “she is ready, she is tested, she will be victorious.”

The governor also predicted in Wednesday night’s "Last Word" interview that President Joe Biden will accomplish more in the remaining six months of his presidency than “Donald Trump did in four years as president.”

Biden stunned the nation Sunday when he announced he’d drop out of the 2024 presidential race amid doubts among Democrats he could beat Trump. He quickly endorsed Harris to run for the job.

Hochul, who stood by Biden's decision to run until he dropped out, said the president had “earned the rights to make the decision on his own.”

“It was hard to take, I will tell you right now,” she said of his decision. “There's a lot of us who believe that he'll go down in history as one of the great change makers who ever held this office.”

The governor said that after Trump's presidency, Biden “gave our country three and a half years of peace – peace of mind knowing that we didn't have someone in the White House who could wake up any day and destroy our democracy.”

Hochul said she had “bittersweet feelings” when he announced he wouldn’t seek reelection. “We’re going to lose this great man,” she said, “but one of the greatest things he did, one of the gifts he gave to our nation was in selecting Kamala Harris to be his vice president.”

Hochul endorsed Harris in an X post on Sunday night, not long after Biden’s announced his endorsement of her.

“I wanted to speak out clearly and early and give her the boost that she needed and she deserved,” the governor said, noting New York’s large number of Democratic delegates “helped put her over the top,” with endorsements to clinch the nomination at the party’s August convention.

Hochul said Biden and Harris have been a “dynamic duo” for the country and that Biden’s presidency has delivered “countless projects” for New York State over the past three and a half years.
