NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Some mouthwatering delights that have been missing this year due to the pandemic are making a big comeback this weekend in Nassau County.

For many, the closest they’ve been able to get to Girl Scout Cookies during the pandemic has been by looking at photos on their computer screens.

But, girl scout troops are stocking up on the delish treats and getting ready to sell again.

“Obviously, it’s a lot harder to sell cookies now because of the pandemic,” said Allie McCormick, a senior Girl Scout with Troop 3095.

McCormick is a top seller in the Jericho-Syosset unit, selling over 1,500 boxes last year.

She says because of COVID, her goals have dropped significantly.

“This year, my goal is to sell only 300 boxes,” she said.

She can’t go door-t- door, or to malls, or school, and her biggest distribution point is still closed indefinitely.

“My husband works – did work – in an office and my girls would go to his office and they would walk around and sell cookies. And they probably received about 100 or 200 boxes,” says McCormick’s mother and Troop leader Fran O’Conner.

But, that’s still not going to stop the girls from getting the tasty treats into the hands of hungry buyers.

This weekend, the Troop will hold its first of its pop-up Girl Scout Cookie Sales Events at the Nassau County headquarters, located at 110 Ring Road in Garden City (right next to Roosevelt Field Mall.)

“Just like you would at your local fast-food place, we’ll take an order, you pop your trunk, and we’ll put some cookies in there. You can get your favorite cookies,” said Rande Bynum, the executive director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County.

For those who can’t drive, no worries – you can also order some boxes via GrubHub.
