According to the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, Grammer fatally shot Bashir “Bobby” Ward in the back of the head at the Citgo Gas Station/D&R Auto Service in Glen Head on Aug. 4, 2018, after the two got into an argument.

“Ward was effectively executed when this defendant approached him from behind and mercilessly shot him once in the back of the head at close range, killing him,” said Acting DA Joyce Smith. “Grammer took a man's life after a petty argument and will now spend decades in prison paying for his crime.”

Grammer, who worked at the gas station for 15 years, had gotten into an argument with Ward over some receipts the day prior to the murder. The argument had become physical when Ward pushed Grammer to the ground.

The next day, while Ward was working on a customer’s vehicle, Grammer retrieved a gun from his own vehicle, approached Ward and shot him once in the head from less than 2-feet away, the DA said. He then fled the location.

The then-71-year-old later called 911 and told the dispatcher, “I just killed a guy.” He returned to the shop later in the day and was arrested.

The murder weapon was recovered in a Toyota Rav4, which was registered to Grammer’s son and parked down the street from the auto shop.
