ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — The Roaring 20s were back in full swing as a Long Island nursing home celebrated several milestone birthdays Thursday.

The Grand Pavilion for Rehabilitation and Nursing at Rockville Centre hosted a party for eight women who are turning 100 or 101 years young in 2022.

The nursing home was decked out in 1920s decorations as a nod to the decade in which the residents were born, and some partygoers even donned flapper dresses.

Gloria Hunt, who is 101, is a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

"I had a nice life and I had a wonderful mother. I was the only child and she catered to me a great deal so I had a happy life," said Hunt, who shared that her secret to a long life has been “no smoking and no drinking.” "Other than that, I eat just about everything. Ice cream and candy."

Rose Curti, who is also 101, loves to snack on Pepsi and potato chips every day.

She worked as a librarian for a school in New York City and looked back on her time there fondly.

"I loved it there," said Curti, who also volunteered at a senior center.

She also used to love to dance the night away.

"I'm a dancer. I won a Peabody contest," Curti said. "I loved every minute of it."

Curti takes daily walks and relaxes by giving herself a manicure.

Her secret to a long life is, "Think positively, never negatively."

"I tell that to everybody whether they believe it or not," she said.

Others celebrating their milestone birthdays include 100-year-old Marie Gula, who says laughter is the key to longevity, and 103-year-old Viola Nowaki, who credits her love for her daughter as the reason she has made it to her age.
