YAPHANK, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- It was a quick but special delivery on Long Island on Christmas Eve, and on Wednesday, mom and the officer who helped make it happen were reunited.

Little baby Avion didn’t want to wait until his mom’s C-section scheduled for three days later than she ended up going into labor, so his mom Chelsea Anderson, of Middle Island, had to figure out what to do.

"It was a very unexpected delivery. I was very nervous, very scared,” she said.

Anderson was scheduled for a C-section because the umbilicial cord was wrapped three times around her baby’s neck.

The call came in at about 7 p.m. on Dec. 24 near the fire department in Ridge, and cops and an ambulance quickly arrived at the scene. Anderson was on the way to a hospital with the baby’s father, but she knew Avion couldn’t wait.

And it was the perfect Suffolk County police officer who responded. Kyle Negrin, 32, is not only an EMT, but a father of three who was in the delivery room for the births of all of his three kids.

Officer Negrin said everything went smoothly. Avion arrived on their way to the hospital, and Negrin and paramedic Eric Ramirez were able to unwrap the umbilical cord.

"It was definitely an honor, probably the proudest moment of my career, delivering Avion,” he said. “Whether it be a fatal car accident, a shooting, a lot of negative things police deal with, this was something nice.”

Both mom and her son are healthy.
